1000 Books In 10 Years; Vol. 104 and 105: Van Gogh: The Complete Paintings (Vol. 1 and 2), by Ingo Walther and Rainer Metzger

Van Gogh: The Complete Paintings is published by Taschen, and as is the case with most Taschen books I’ve picked up, it is beautiful. It is a comprehensive collection of paintings by Van Gogh and the accompanying text offers biographical insights into Van Gogh’s life, frequently quoting the letters shared between Van Gogh and his brother Theo (among others), and also offers interpretations and insights into the paintings themselves, while opting not to sensationalize or romanticize Van Gogh’s battle with mental illness and his subsequent suicide. It would make an excellent addition to any art-lover’s library.
